Farmers affiliated to Southern Districts Farmers’ Association laid siege to the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Bank at S. Maraikulam to highlight their demand for complete waiver of crop loan on Wednesday.The protesters, led by the association Virudhunagar district president, R. Rampandian, also raised slogans against the State Government.The agitators later submitted a petition to the secretary of the PACB seeking waiver of the entire crop loan.The TVK in its election manifest had promised complete waiver of crop loans for the farmers with land holding of less than 5 acres. However, now the crop loan waiver announced by the Chief Minister, C. Joseph Vijay, has disappointed the farmer.Hence, the State Government should waive off all the crop loans as promised, the farmers said.The association district secretary, Gopalakrishnan, former president of the PACB, Dharmarajan, were among those who took part in the protest.The association has been staging similar protests in different parts of the district for the last four days.
