BBC's Dion Dublin was left speechless when shown around a property in Merseyside.12:50, 03 Jun 2026Presenter Dion Dublin was puzzled by what he discovered in a Merseyside property. The most recent episode of BBC's Homes Under the Hammer saw Dion venture 20 minutes from his Wirral residence to inspect a two-bedroom house in Birkenhead. He presented the mid-terraced property which was advertised for auction at £40,000. Dion expressed his delight at visiting a property so near to his Wirral home.He informed viewers: "Well I've got to say, I do love theses ones. We're in Birkenhead and I only live about 20 mins away. So thank you very much Homes Under the Hammer for giving me this today."Dion guided viewers through the dilapidated property, which had remained unchanged for numerous years. The BBC presenter remarked: "I feel as if I've walked into this house that's not been touched in a long time."Dion examined the property's lounge before he proceeded into the kitchen, where he was instantly caught off guard as wooden bars were dividing the living space and the kitchen, reports the Liverpool Echo. The BBC star considered the feature rather "strange" as he likened it to being incarcerated. He remarked: "Well this is rather strange isn't it. I haven't seen this before. It's like prison bars." He grasped the bars and quipped: "Let me out!"Following a complete tour of the property, Dion disclosed it had been bought at auction by a Liverpool man called Ben, who serves as a Sergeant in the armed forces.Ben purchased the property for £75,000, eager to launch a "side hustle" generating income for his family alongside his military career. The purchaser intended to overhaul the house with his budget of £30,000 to £40,000. Ben targeted a 12 to 15 week timeline, though this ultimately stretched to five months.Ultimately, Ben disclosed he'd sold the Wirral home for an impressive £152,500 following a complete renovation. He eliminated the leaks, mould and damp, securing a profit of £27,500, which he plans to invest towards refurbishing another property.Ben discussed his career while currently residing in Camberley, located in north west Surrey. He told Dion: "My wife is down in Camberley where I'm currently based in the military. I'm in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst at the minute training the next generation of officers."He also revealed his two-year-old appears to be developing a "crazy" mixed accent following time spent living in the south. He said: "My little boy is only two and he's starting to get some crazy twangs come in, a little bit of Scouse and a little bit of Cockney."Article continues belowHomes Under the Hammer is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
