P. Raju, held in Visakhapatnam Central Jail under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, was released for the day on Wednesday (June 3, 2026), on the orders of Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha, to attend his son’s funeral. The move drew appreciation from his family and residents of Jampena village in V. Sai Kiran, 17, died in a road accident. His younger son, Jitendra, had died of illness three years ago. Both sons were now dead and Mr. Raju was in jail, leaving his wife, Lakshmi, devastated.To help the father attend his son’s last rites, family members and village elders approached V. Madugula Sub-Inspector Narayana Rao and K. Kotapadu Circle Inspector Krishna. The officers immediately brought the matter to the attention of Mr. Tuhin Sinha.The SP submitted a report to the State government seeking special consideration, and the Revenue and Excise Department issued an emergency Government Order (G.O.) on Tuesday (June 2, 2026), permitting his temporary release from prison for a day.Mr. Raju was brought to Jampena village under police escort on Wednesday (June 3, 2026). He took part in the funeral and performed his son’s final rites before being taken back into custody.Family members, including Lakshmi, and residents of Jampena village thanked Mr. Tuhin Sinha.
