The Anakapalli police on Thursday invoked the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS Act) against a habitual ganja smuggler, Chinni Krishna (35) of B. B. Patnam, Rolugunta mandal.

Considering that the accused was a habitual offender, Superintendent of Police, Tuhin Sinha, submitted a report to the government recommending stringent action. After reviewing the report, the Principal Secretary issued orders through a G.O and directed the invocation of the PIT NDPS Act. Following the orders, Kothakota Circle Inspector G. Koteswara Rao took the accused into custody and shifted him to Visakhapatnam Central Jail on Thursday. The police said that a person detained under the PIT NDPS Act is unlikely to get bail for up to a year.
