He accused the presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, of repeatedly adjourning the case without just cause, even after the prosecution failed to provide evidence beyond a reasonable doubt.
An inmate at Kuje Prison in the Federal Capital Territory has appealed to the Nigerian government and the judiciary to intervene in what he describes as prolonged and unjust detention, saying he and many others have been held for years without conviction while prosecutors fail to prove their cases.
In a message sent from the correctional facility, the inmate, who is facing an alleged oil bunkering charge, said he has been in custody for two years and six months with no resolution in sight.
He accused the presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, of repeatedly adjourning the case without just cause, even after the prosecution failed to provide evidence beyond a reasonable doubt.
"A lot of us here have been on awaiting trial for a very long time without the judges doing the needful. They give people adjournments when the prosecutors cannot even prove their cases beyond reasonable doubts," the inmate said.
