Teachers in Adamawa State on Tuesday joined a nationwide wave of protests against the growing scourge of school abductions, condemning the kidnapping of teachers and students in Oyo State who are still being held by their captors.
The protesters, backed by organised labour unions, marched through major streets of Yola before converging on the Government House, demanding decisive action from authorities to end the relentless attacks on schools.
Leading the demonstration were the Adamawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Faisal Mohammed, and the Chairman of Organised Labour in the state, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe.
Addressing the crowd, Fashe blasted the continued abduction of schoolchildren and teachers across Nigeria, warning that the nation's education sector was under siege. He called for an immediate overhaul of security architecture around schools to prevent further attacks.
