Describing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as a crucial exercise, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday directed the party cadre to take the exercise seriously, saying that it would test the organisational strength and coordination of the ruling alliance.Addressing a workshop on the SIR at the TDP headquarters in Amaravati, which was attended by MLAs, MPs, MLCs, constituency in-charges, observers and Booth Level Agents (BLAs), Mr. Naidu emphasised the importance of ensuring accurate voter enrolment and verification. The TDP national president said voter list revision is a critical component of electoral preparedness and noted that the SIR exercises are generally undertaken once every two to three decades.Referring to the current exercise, he said authorities are carrying out the revision process by taking the 2002 electoral rolls as a reference point and that voter mapping would be conducted twice before July 14.Mr. Naidu urged the TDP functionaries to ensure that all eligible voters were enrolled and that no negligence was shown during the process. While registering to vote is the responsibility of citizens, he said, creating awareness about voter enrolment is a fundamental duty of political parties.Highlighting the significance of electoral rolls, the TDP chief said election strategies and campaign planning are largely based on the voter database. He announced that the party would monitor the SIR process on a daily basis and asked leaders to continuously verify whether supporters’ names are included in the rolls.Mr. Naidu credited the NDA’s landslide victory in the 2024 Assembly elections to effective voter mobilisation, noting that many voters residing outside their native constituencies returned to cast their ballots. He said the coalition’s success, which resulted in 164 Assembly seats, reflected the strength of coordinated efforts among alliance partners.Mr. Naidu said coordination between TDP, the Jana Sena Party and the BJP should extend beyond elections and become a regular feature of governance and organisational activities.Describing the SIR exercise as the ‘first test’ of coordination among alliance partners, Mr. Naidu said strong leadership is more important than merely having a large number of followers. “Many people seek followers, but I seek leaders,” he remarked, adding that effective leadership strengthens the party and its organisational network.Recalling the party’s success in graduates’ constituency MLC elections before the 2024 polls, Mr. Naidu said the victories were achieved through meticulous ground-level work and technical planning, demonstrating the strength of the TDP’s organisational structure and voter outreach mechanisms. The workshop was aimed at equipping party representatives with the knowledge and tools required to effectively participate in the voter list revision process ahead of future elections.
