Bengaluru: Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Tuesday visited Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) facilities in Bengaluru, where he reviewed the company's drone, loitering munitions, military mobility and aerospace manufacturing programmes.At the Electronic City facility, he inspected Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) production lines, optronics systems and land mobility platforms, and was briefed on the company's loitering munitions programme and other defence systems under development, said the company in a statement.The visit also included a review of armoured vehicle programmes, military-modified JLR Defender vehicles and the Advanced Armoured Platform developed with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). TASL showcased its military mobility business, which has exported high-mobility vehicles to overseas customers in recent years, the statement added.At the Vemagal facility, Chandrasekaran inspected the Airbus H125 helicopter assembly line, the C295 aircraft wiring harness unit, artillery systems and launcher integration facilities.The statement further said that he also reviewed progress on the upcoming C-130J aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility near Bengaluru airport, which is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2026.The visit comes as Tata Group steps up investments in defence and aerospace manufacturing, a sector that has emerged as a key growth area for the conglomerate.TASL is involved in programmes spanning military aircraft, helicopters, drones, artillery systems and defence electronics, and is among the private-sector companies seeking a larger role in India's indigenous defence programmes, added the statement.The visit also comes amid ongoing discussions over Chandrasekaran's reappointment as Tata Sons chairman. ET recently reported that Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata has sought clarity on the group's long-term strategy, Tata Sons' stance on a potential listing and plans related to the Shapoorji Pallonji Group's exit, before formal discussions on the next leadership term move forward.
