Teachers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), on Tuesday staged a solidarity rally demanding the immediate release of teachers and students abducted from schools in Oyo State and other parts of the country.

The rally, held in Abuja, brought together members of various educational associations affiliated with the NUT, including the Academic Staff Union and other stakeholders in the education sector.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the NUT FCT Wing, Abubakar Mohammad expressed concern over the worsening security situation in schools and condemned the abduction of teachers and learners in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026.

He noted that despite earlier appeals by the union and other stakeholders, the victims remained in captivity, while one teacher was reportedly killed by the abductors.
