The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has announced a nationwide solidarity and peace protest scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to demand the immediate and safe release of teachers and students abducted in recent attacks on schools in Oyo and Borno states.

The planned demonstration follows growing concerns among teachers over the worsening insecurity facing teachers and students across Nigeria, particularly in areas affected by kidnappings and armed attacks.

In a notice circulated to members and signed by the Publicity Secretary of the NUT Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, Comrade Ibukun Adekeye, the union said the protest was being organised in compliance with a directive from its national leadership.

According to the notice, participants are expected to converge at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in the Central Business District, Abuja, by 8am.
