Objecting to the raising of height of the road due to relaying of roads without milling, members of the Bharatiya Janata Party submitted petition to Mayor G. Ramakrishnan during the weekly grievances redress meeting held at Corporation on Tuesday. The petitioners led by BJP’s Rejish Ram of ward 37 said the roads relaid along the Kariyamanicka Perumal Temple South Car Street had not been done properly after completely milling the existing surface. Consequently, this ‘illegal road laying practise’ had led to considerable increase in the thickness of the road.“The increased height of the road will certainly lead to flowing of rainwater into the low-lying houses along the Kariyamanicka Perumal Temple South Car Street. Hence, the Corporation should take immediate action to rectify this problem,” the BJP cadre said.Councillor of ward 23 Anarkali submitted a petition seeking direction to the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation to replace the badly damaged electric poles in her ward. “Since the base of these electric poles have got eroded due to poor concrete quality, the poles may fall down any time to cause serious catastrophe. Hence, Corporation should direct the Tangedco officials to replace the damaged poles immediately to avert major tragedy,” Ms. Anarkali said.A group of TVK members submitted petition seeking the early relaying of the roads damaged in Pettai area of ward 19. Since the underground drainage work had been completed in this area, the roads dug for the work should be relaid considering the safety of road users, the petitioners said.Former secretary of Viswanatha Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association in Pettai submitted a petition for renovation of the park in their area and the installation of lights in the poles.Petitions were submitted seeking better drinking water supply, roads and street lights in Malliga Nagar in Thiyagaraja Nagar, Kailaasapuram, Thuvarai Office, Kailaasapuram South and Chittaranjan Street, all in ward 30.
