The Road Users Welfare Trust, a voluntary organisation, has appealed to Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments R. Ramesh, who represents Tiruchi district, to take steps to execute the pending proposals for strengthening the road network in the city.In a representation addressed to the Minister, P. Ayyarappan, managing trustee of the organisation, listed various proposals that have not taken off in the city after preliminary works such as preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) and soil testing.The three elevated corridors between between Chinthamani and Mallachipuram; Head Post Office and Puthur Four Road Junction; and Chinthamani to Railway Junction proposed by the State Highways Department to ease traffic congestion remain on paper, he pointed out.A bypass road was planned between Athani Pirivu to Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway in view of the frequent accidents and heavy congestion on No.1 Tollgate -Uthamarkovil-Nochiyam road stretch.This apart, a northern bypass starting from Asoor near Thuvakudi to connect major highways around the city and the southern bypasses between Panchapur and Thindukarai, planned as semi ring roads around the city, are also yet to see the light of the day, Mr. Ayyarappan observed and appealed to the Minister to take steps to execute the projects to ease the traffic congestion and check accidents in and around Tiruchi.
