Ahead of the impending monsoon season, the district administration has prepared comprehensive guidelines to fortify regional defence and mitigation frameworks. According to Kollam Collector Anie Jula Thomas, the administration is fully equipped for disaster prevention, backed by a State government allocation of ₹1 crore explicitly sanctioned for relief operations. Local self-government institutions have been strictly instructed to formulate and execute scientifically planned projects tailored to counter potential disaster scenarios. To ensure a seamless emergency response, the administration has locked in the availability of essential heavy machinery, including earthmovers and excavators, alongside a fleet of ambulances, firefighting units, and support vehicles. Tahsildars have been specifically tasked with identifying chronic waterlogging zones and implementing immediate corrective measures, while operations are already underway to remove dangerous trees bordering major transit corridors, including National Highways and the MC Road.Given the high risk of monsoon-related disease outbreaks, local bodies have been directed to form ward-level sanitation committees. Having already completed 1,599 localised cleanliness drives and cleared 244.7 tonnes of non-biodegradable waste, officials have expressed strong confidence in controlling infectious diseases. To prevent flash floods, extensive desiltation drives are being carried out to clear drains and ensure the unobstructed flow of natural water bodies. Furthermore, a unified emergency management team including Kerala State Electricity Board, Irrigation department, and Public Works department has been activated to handle any infrastructure crises.
