A meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority convened by District Collector Arjun Pandiyan on Friday reviewed monsoon preparedness by various departments across Thrissur district.
The Collector gave instructions to ensure continuous maintenance and repairs of potholes on roads to guarantee commuter safety. He also stressed the need for compliance with directions issued in previous meetings on road safety, and urged officials to verify that these are being implemented effectively.
To address waterlogging issues in the Cherpu-Pullu region, the Subcollector has been assigned to coordinate efforts. Officials reported that removal of weeds and vegetation has already begun. Orders have been issued to open closed sluices and bunds. The meeting proposed forming squads to implement these instructions promptly.
Permanent relief camp
Considering the need for a permanent relief camp in the area, the Collector directed the Thrissur tahsildar to identify land and send a proposal to the government. He also instructed the Public Works department Buildings Division to prepare a cost estimate for this.
