The district is fully prepared for the southwest monsoon, Revenue Minister A.P. Anil Kumar has said. Mr. Kumar, who is in charge of Kozhikode district, was speaking after a meeting at the district collectorate conference hall to review the monsoon preparedness measures on Monday (June 1).“The government’s priority is to ensure the safety of the people and to deliver essential services in the most efficient manner,” the Minister said, calling for close cooperation and coordination among various departments to achieve the objective.Mr. Kumar said preparedness activities should begin at the grassroots level, and that efforts should be coordinated from the village and taluk levels up to the district level to ensure an effective response to emergencies. Departments such as Revenue, Health, and Local Self-Government should work in coordination and function efficiently, he said.The Minister said hospitals in the district had adequate stocks of medicines, but cautioned that preventive measures were necessary to check the spread of communicable diseases during the monsoon season. He stressed the need for special vigilance in schools during the rainy season and reviewed matters related to the fitness and safety of school buildings.Mr. Kumar also assessed pre-monsoon sanitation activities, including the cleaning of drains and water channels, arrangements at relief camps, preparedness to tackle coastal erosion and measures to ensure the safety of fishermen.District Collector M.S.
