The Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam, Coimbatore Unit, has alleged that avoiding of Anna Nagar stoppage in Thondamuthur in the district by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) amounts to caste discrimination.Espousing the cause of over 300 Scheduled Caste (SC) families residing in Annanagar area near Kempanur, functionaries said the residents, mostly students labourers, women and aged people, commuting to the city every day had to walk for about a kilometre to the nearest bus stop at KempanurThe TNSTC, in the past, is learnt to have operated limited services, in the wake of protests by the residents.The residents in Kempanur belonging to an intermediary caste had, on their part, staging protests, complaining that most of the seats get occupied when the buses are operated from Anna Nagar.The Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam submitted a petition to the district administration stating that the residents of Anna Nagar become vulnerable to attack by wild animals and reptiles while walking towards Kempanur stop.The residents of Anna Nagar had reportedly explained their plight to the Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Vanni Arasu when he visited Coimbatore recently.The Minister had also urged the district administration to address their grievance.
