The travelling public in Cheran Maa Nagar in the city have urged the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Coimbatore., to operate more bus services to Gandhipuram, Singanallur and Town Hall, citing the rapid urbanisation of localities in the surroundings.

In representations to the Chief Minister’s cell and TNSTC, V. Balasubramani, a social activist and resident of the area, said the bus services to important points in the city were inadequate for residents in the stretch from Vilankurichi to Cheran Maanagar.

Citing the presence of the plethora of software companies providing employment to several thousands of people, and the travelling requirement for school and college students in the densely-populated cluster of localities surrounding Cheran Maa Nagar, Mr. Balasubramanian said the public were required to wait for at least 30 minutes for the bus services or depend on share autos.

Bus services with stoppage at CODISSIA complex where people visit in lakhs must be restored. Unlike in Chennai, where the suburban bus services addressed the transport requirement in a large way, the people in Coimbatore, the second largest city in Tamil Nadu, entirely rely on city bus services, Mr. Balasubramanian said in his representation.
