The Maranalloor police have registered a case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, based on a complaint by a bus attendant of a private school in Ooruttambalam, who alleged caste-based discrimination and wrongful termination from employment. The complaint was filed by Mannadikkonam native Jayasree, who has been working as a bus attendant at Sree Saraswathy Vidyalayam, Ooruttambalam. She alleged that the school’s bus coordinator Abhilash subjected her to caste-based abuse and terminated her service unlawfully.According to the complaint, Ms. Jayasree joined duty on June 3 and worked for three days before being informed on June 5 that her services were no longer required. She alleged that the reason initially communicated to her was a complaint purportedly made by the parent of a student travelling on the bus, which claimed that she had an unpleasant body odour. When she later sought clarification from the bus coordinator, he allegedly made remarks referring to her Scheduled Caste identity and told her she could not be retained in the position.
