MANILA, Philippines — Authorities seized over P35.4-million worth of smuggled onion and garlic during a recent operation inside a cold storage facility in Talavera, Nueva Ecija.

The operation on the seizure of illegally imported products was conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation’s Special Action Unit (NBI-SAU), the Bureau of Customs (BOC), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the NBI said in a statement on Tuesday.

Agents from the NBI-SAU first conducted a surveillance and test-buy operation against the Talco Cold Storage Corp., located along Bypass Road in Brgy. Calipahan, Talavera, Nueva Ecija, following a complaint requesting to probe the alleged illegal importation and sale of smuggled onions and garlic in local markets in the area.
