COTABATO CITY – The police in Malabang, Lanao del Sur intercepted an estimated P4.4 million worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes and arrested three persons on Saturday.
Brig. Gen. Christopher Abecia, director of the Police Regional Office– Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao(PRO-BAR), said suspects were arrested at around 2:30 a.m. at a checkpoint in Barangay Matling in Malabang town.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the Malabang police, the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office, and troops from the Army’s 101st Infantry Brigade.
Initial investigation showed the suspects were traveling in three vehicles from Picong town en route to Marawi City when they were flagged down at the checkpoint.
