KwaZulu-Natal ANC leader Mike Mabuyakhulu has called on artists to support the party in reclaiming the lost municipalities in the upcoming elections.
In a drive to reclaim the municipalities it lost in the last local government elections, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has mobilised province-based artists to campaign for it, promising to hire them during campaigns.
The party invited artists and summoned mayors from all the municipalities it controlled and directed them to hire the artists in their service delivery roadshows. As their financial years begin, municipalities are delivering their budgets and the ANC wants them to set aside a budget for artists.
Addressing the artists and mayors in Durban on Tuesday, the ANC's provincial task team convener Mike Mabuyakhulu told the ANC mayors that they must support artists as many of them would be assisting the ANC in the upcoming election campaigns.
“Ikhotha eyikhothayo, (this is reciprocal), so the ANC looked after the artists when it was still controlling government, now it’s time for the artists to return that favour, however, the ANC and its controlled-municipalities will look at the budgets and see how artists would benefit in our public engagements as we launch our election campaigns. We urge you to assist us in reclaiming and winning all the 54 municipalities,” said Mabuyakhulu.
