The Kwara State Police Command has condemned the gruesome acts of mob violence, arson, and extra-judicial killings that occurred in Ilesha Baruba, Baruten Local Government Area of the State.
In a statement issued by Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the Command said investigations revealed that on May 30, 2026, a violent altercation occurred between an unidentified Fulani man and an Islamic scholar, Mohammed Ilyasu, during which both men sustained severe machete injuries.
The Command said the incident subsequently escalated into widespread violence, leading to the loss of lives, destruction of property, and attacks on innocent residents.
According to the statement, they were immediately rushed to the Hospital for medical attention. Sadly, Mohammed Ilyasu was confirmed dead on arrival, while the assailant also succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
The statement added that, rather than allowing the law to take its course, some irate youths reportedly stormed the hospital, seized the corpse of the deceased assailant, and set it ablaze.
