A family source disclosed the development to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, alleging that the police intimidated the father and son into accepting stringent conditions for their release.

A West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) candidate and his father, who were detained for days by officers of the Nigeria Police Force at Area P Command in Lagos over an alleged theft of electrical wires, have been released after allegedly being forced to sign an undertaking committing them to pay ₦2.5million in instalments despite the absence of evidence linking them to the crime.

A family source disclosed the development to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, alleging that the police intimidated the father and son into accepting stringent conditions for their release.

According to the source, the two suspects were compelled to sign documents accepting financial liability for the alleged theft and were warned that they could be rearrested if they failed to comply with the terms.

"They have been released and were made to pay ₦50,000 each for bail and were also forced to sign an undertaking to pay the sum of ₦2.5 million in instalments monthly," the family source told SaharaReporters.
