Tuesday, 02 Jun 2026 1:05 PM MYT BATU PAHAT, June 2 — A 19-year-old male teenager has been remanded for two days starting today to assist in investigations into a fatal accident that claimed five lives, including four members of a family, on Jalan Renggam-Simpang Renggam here yesterday.The remand order until tomorrow was issued by Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno at the Batu Pahat Magistrates’ Court to enable further investigations to be carried out under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.Earlier, the suspect, who was the driver of a Mercedes-Benz A250 and dressed in a brown lockup attire, arrived at the court premises at about 10.20am accompanied by police officers.Yesterday, police confirmed the arrest of the local teenager following the horrific accident involving five vehicles.Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh was reported to have said initial investigations found that the suspect was suspected of driving his vehicle recklessly along with a BMW 530e driven by his 22-year-old brother.He said the accident at 1.15pm occurred when the BMW 530e lost control at the scene before entering the opposite lane and hitting a Perodua Alza, Toyota Vios, Proton Wira and another Mercedes-Benz.He said as a result of the collision, a family of four including a 10-year-old girl were confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head and body injuries.Meanwhile, the suspect’s brother who was driving the BMW 530e was reported to have died on the way to hospital due to the severe injuries he sustained. — Bernama
