Tuesday, 02 Jun 2026 9:55 AM MYT JOHOR BAHRU, June 2 — Police have arrested a local man to assist in the investigation of an accident involving five vehicles that killed five people at Kilometre 27, Jalan Renggam–Simpang Renggam, Kluang.Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 19-year-old man was believed to be driving a Mercedes Benz A250 at high speed and recklessly with a BMW 530e driven by a 22-year-old local man, who is also his elder brother.He said the accident at 1.15pm occurred when the BMW 530e lost control at the scene before entering the opposite lane and hitting a Perodua Alza, Toyota Vios, Proton Wira and another Mercedes Benz.According to him, the accident caused the driver of the BMW 530e to die after his vehicle entered a ravine, as well as four others, namely the driver of the Toyota Vios, a 36-year-old local man, his 33-year-old wife with two family members comprising a 73-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl.“The driver and passenger of the Toyota Vios died at the scene due to severe head and body injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the BMW 530e died on the way to the hospital,” he said in a statement.He said the two passengers of the Perodua Alza, an 11-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl who suffered head injuries, are receiving treatment at the Red Zone, Emergency Ward of the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK) Kluang.The driver of the Perodua Alza, a 43-year-old local man, he said suffered leg injuries, while the driver of the Proton Wira, a 22-year-old local man, was injured in the mouth.Meanwhile, the driver of the other Mercedes Benz, a 57-year-old local woman, only suffered minor injuries to the chest and face, while her two passengers did not suffer any injuries.Bahrin said all the injured victims were receiving treatment at HEBHK, explaining that the urine test results found the 19-year-old man to be negative for drugs.According to him, the police also seized the Mercedes Benz A250 and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
