By Malay Mail Tuesday, 02 Jun 2026 9:29 AM MYT KLUANG, June 2 — A four-member family was killed in a five-vehicle crash along Jalan Renggam–Kluang yesterday after two luxury cars were allegedly travelling at high speed and driving recklessly, police said.According to the New Straits Times, Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said initial investigations indicated that a BMW 530e driven by a 22-year-old man was heading from Kluang towards Simpang Renggam when the incident occurred. He said the BMW was believed to have been travelling at high speed alongside a Mercedes-Benz A250 driven by a 19-year-old man, who has since been arrested and had his vehicle seized. The BMW driver later died while being taken to hospital.Bahrin said the BMW driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer into the opposite lane before crashing into four oncoming vehicles — a Perodua Alza, Toyota Vios, Proton Wira and another Mercedes-Benz — before plunging into a ravine. The impact killed the driver of the Toyota Vios, a 36-year-old man, along with his 33-year-old wife, a 73-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl. All four died from severe head and body injuries. The deceased were later identified as Semek Mat Soh, 73; Aiman Mohd Rashid, 36; his wife Nor Azlina Abd Latip, 33; and Aiman’s niece, Nur Airish Syifa Sidek, 10.Bahrin said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.A urine test on the suspect returned negative for prohibited substances, while a remand application will be made under Section 42(1) of the same Act, he added.Meanwhile, Berita Harian reported that post-mortem examinations were completed at about 4am at Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom, after which the bodies of the four victims were released to their families. The remains were then taken to Terengganu in separate hearses. They are expected to be buried in their hometown of Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, Dungun, after Zohor prayers. Two children travelling in the Perodua Alza — aged 11 and seven — suffered head injuries and are receiving treatment at the same hospital. The Alza driver, aged 43, sustained leg injuries, while a 22-year-old Proton Wira driver suffered mouth injuries.A 57-year-old woman driving the second Mercedes-Benz sustained minor injuries. All injured victims were taken to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom following the 1.15pm crash.Police have urged witnesses with information to come forward or contact the Kluang district police headquarters.
