The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGC Navy) said it targeted the US-Israeli ship MSC Sariska with a cruise missile in what it described as retaliation for a US attack on the Iranian vessel Lian Star in the Sea of Oman.
The force warned that any further US action would face a “decisive response”.
Footage shared online appeared to show emergency crews working to contain a fire aboard the vessel in Iraqi territorial waters after the reported strike.
IRGC Quds Force Commander Brigadier General Esmail Qa'ani warned that the Bab al-Mandab Strait could face the same traffic restrictions as the Strait of Hormuz if Israel continued its military operations in Lebanon and Gaza with US support.
