He was rushed to hospital after the accident in Dartford, Kent but sadly just two days later he passed away surrounded by loved ones in a London hospital.Officials say the fire engine was “travelling to a reported emergency” and Kent Police are now appealing for witnesses with dashcam footage to come forward.In a heartbreaking tribute a friend of Tommy's said: " Anyone who knew Tommy knows just how special he was. He was the biggest smile in every room, the loudest laugh, the friend who could lift your spirits no matter what kind of day you were having. He was kind, caring, loyal, and loved by so many. There will never, ever be another Tommy like him!"He was so young with so much life still ahead of him. He was always road conscious and safety-minded, which makes this tragedy even harder to comprehend. His loss has left an unfillable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone lucky enough to have known him."A GoFundMe has been set up in Tommy’s name to help cover funeral costs. According to an account from the GoFundMe, Tommy was “waiting at the crossing for the green man signal” moments before he was hit. After receiving the signal to cross, Tommy “stepped onto the crossing and was tragically struck by an oncoming fire truck”.Ann Millington, Chief Executive at Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS), said: “At approximately 10.40pm on May 25, a fire engine was involved in a collision with an electric scooter in Princes Road, Dartford.“The fire engine was travelling to a reported emergency. Kent Police has confirmed the rider of the electric scooter has sadly died. Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident. There is a legal process to follow, and we are fully committed to supporting Kent Police’s investigation, as well as conducting our own internal investigation.”A police spokesman for Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called to Princes Road at about 10.44pm on Monday, May 25, 2026, where a fire engine was involved in a collision with an e-scooter at the junction with Darenth Road."Officers along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) attended the scene and the rider of the e-scooter, a 21-year-old man, was taken to London hospital, where he remains in a serious condition. Anyone who saw the collision, or who might have seen the vehicles beforehand, is urged to contact police."A spokesperson for SECAmb said: "SECAmb were called at approximately 10.45pm yesterday evening to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a scooter on Princes Road in Dartford. Multiple crews attended the scene and assessed and treated the rider of the scooter before being joined by The Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex. The patient was then taken via road to a London hospital for further medical treatment."Those who saw the collision or might have seen the vehicles beforehand are urged to contact Kent Police.
