A chef returning home from work on an e-scooter was hit and killed after colliding with a fire engine responding to an emergency. Tommy Jarvis, 21, was journeying home from his job at Miller & Carter on an electric motorbike when he collided with the emergency vehicle at a junction in Dartford, Kent, on Monday, May 25 at around 10.45pm. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene on Princes Road, and the former Dartford Science and Technology College student was brought to a London hospital in critical condition, where he later died. Tributes to the youngster, who turned 21 in April, have been made by family and friends on an online fundraiser set up to raise £5,000 to cover a church service. 'He was so young with so much life still ahead of him,' the tribute read.'Anyone who knew Tommy knows just how special he was. He was kind, caring, loyal, and loved by so many. 'There will never, ever be another Tommy like him!'Addressing the events surrounding his death, the statement claimed Tommy had been 'waiting at the crossing for the green man signal,' before stepping onto the crossing after receiving the signal. Kent Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the fire truck was 'travelling to a reported emergency' at the time of the collision.Ann Millington, the service's chief executive, said: 'Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident.'There is a legal process to follow, and we are fully committed to supporting Kent Police's investigation, as well as conducting our own internal investigation.' Kent Police has appealed for anyone who saw the incident or the e-scooter rider before the collision to contact them.A police spokesman for Kent Police said: 'Kent Police was called to Princes Road at about 10.44pm on Monday, May 25, 2026, where a fire engine was involved in a collision with an e-scooter at the junction with Darenth Road.'Officers along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) attended the scene and the rider of the e-scooter, a 21-year-old man, was taken to London hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.'Anyone who saw the collision, or who might have seen the vehicles beforehand, is urged to contact police.'A spokesperson for SECAmb said: 'SECAmb were called at approximately 10.45pm yesterday evening to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a scooter on Princes Road in Dartford.'Multiple crews attended the scene and assessed and treated the rider of the scooter before being joined by The Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex.'The patient was then taken via road to a London hospital for further medical treatment.'Those who saw the collision or might have seen the vehicles beforehand are urged to contact Kent Police.
