A civil society organisation, the Initiative for Leadership and Economic Watch in Nigeria (ILEWN), has expressed concern over the growing accountability challenges across some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), warning that weak transparency and expenditure oversight could undermine ongoing economic reforms by the Federal Government.
The concerns were disclosed by the Executive Director of ILEWN, Ambassador Splendour Agbonkpolor, during an interaction with journalists ahead of a coalition press conference scheduled for June 4 in Abuja.
According to Agbonkpolor, the briefing will focus on emerging accountability concerns within public institutions and their potential impact on fiscal discipline, public confidence, and the success of the administration's economic recovery agenda.
The organisation said its recent reviews of expenditure records across certain federal agencies revealed recurring issues, including substantial public disbursements within short periods, vague project descriptions, weak beneficiary traceability, and concerns relating to procurement transparency and value-for-money assessments.
