Why settle for instant coffee when you can have espresso? Or line up for the buffet when you can enjoy à la carte? Don’t wait for an official invite before you level up your lounge access.
The Pantry in Cathay’s new The Wing first lounge at Hong Kong International Airport.
Ilove arriving early for international flights if there’s a lounge involved. But not every lounge is worthy of extended time. It’s an unwritten rule of the sky that the lounge your airline might direct you to often isn’t the best you can access with your ticket. It’s probably just the airline’s cheapest option.
For instance, early this year, I treated myself to Qatar Airways’ Qsuite business class from Melbourne to Doha. Officially, my boarding pass invited me to Melbourne’s Marhaba Lounge, which is often quite full (this was before the Iran war) and lacking even barista-made coffee. But I’ve done my homework.
