Members of the Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC), submitted a petition during the weekly grievance meeting here on Monday raising three key demands including the instalment of tactile pathways in key government offices.TARATDAC district secretary A. Balamurugan, citing section 40 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, urged for the immediate installation of two-foot-wide tactile paving and Braille boards at both the old and new District Collector offices to ensure barrier-free access for visually impaired visitors.Additionally, highlighting the severe economic hardships and lack of family support faced by many of the district’s 70,000 disabled residents, the association requested the Collector’s intervention to waive the current Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000 fee and provide free cremation and burial services at all electric crematoriums.Mr. Balamurugan said the Dindigul district administration has passed a similar order pertaining to the free cremation services for differently-abled people. He called for the resumption of the bi-monthly special grievance redressal meeting, which has been delayed for over five months under the District Collector.Alongside, they also demanded the regularisation of the lapsed monthly review meetings chaired by the Revenue Divisional Officer, Mr. Balamurugan noted.
