Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy

With a view to ensure sufficient fertilizer availability to farmers during the upcoming kharif season, the Telangana government has said it would ask the Centre to allot all urea produced at the Ramagundam Fertilizer factory to the State.“We will write a letter to the Union government, appealing to it to sanction all the output from the factory to the State to meet the kharif requirements,” Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said.Addressing a meeting here on Monday to review the monsoon preparedness of the government machinery, the Chief Minister asked officials to educate farmers about the shortfall in rainfall. “We must also educate them about the importance of crop diversification and about the crops that require relatively less water,” he said in a statement here.As the Meteorological Department reports that deficit rainfall conditions may prevail due to the El Nino effect, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that the State gets its rightful share of Krishna and Godavari waters.“If the upper riparian States continue to release water only after their dams are completely filled, Telangana will face severe difficulties,” he said.Since deficit rainfall conditions are likely to prevail in Maharashtra and Karnataka as well, he asked the Irrigation Department officials to hold discussions with officials of those States and to formulate a proper action plan to ensure that Telangana receives its share of interstate waters on a pro rata basis.Published on June 1, 2026
