The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Office has entered into a partnership with VietJet Group, signing a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the development of a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) centre at U-tapao airport. The agreement marks a major step in Thailand's ambitious plan to transform the EEC into a hub for aviation and advanced industries, said the office.
Chula Sukmanop, secretary-general of the EEC Office, said the agreement includes a feasibility study to establish the MRO facility, which is part of the government's flagship project in Rayong province.
Rayong, Chon Buri and Chachoengsao form the core of the EEC, where U-tapao airport is to serve as a centrepiece for economic development.
The corridor is set to host 12 targeted S-curve industries, including next-generation automobiles and smart electronics, underscoring the government's plan to turn the EEC into a high-tech industrial hub.
