New Delhi: A drastic fall in temperatures kept Delhi cooler than normal on Sunday, with the city recording a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius, 4.2 degrees below normal.The city received 0.9 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Saturday, while no rainfall was recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data.Also Read: IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in UP, Delhi, Rajasthan and other states soonAt Safdarjung, the minimum temperature stood at 23.3 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees below normal.Across other stations, Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 35.5 degrees Celsius, 5.5 degrees below normal, and a minimum of 21.0 degrees Celsius, 6.2 degrees below normal.Lodhi Road recorded a maximum of 34.7 degrees Celsius, 5.3 degrees below normal, and a minimum of 22.2 degrees Celsius, 3.8 degrees below normal.The Ridge station logged a maximum temperature of 35.1 degrees Celsius, 4.6 degrees below normal, and a minimum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius, 4.5 degrees below normal.Ayanagar recorded a maximum of 34.4 degrees Celsius, 6.4 degrees below normal, and a minimum of 22.5 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees below normal.Also Read: Delhi weather update: IMD issues yellow alert as light rain, lightning and strong winds likelyWeather experts attributed the cooler conditions to rain and thunderstorm activity associated with an ongoing western disturbance over Rajasthan and central Pakistan."The rain and thunderstorm activity over Delhi-NCR is due to the influence of an active western disturbance over Rajasthan and central Pakistan," weather experts said.Meanwhile, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 98 at 4 pm, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), placing it in the "satisfactory" category.According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 to 100 "satisfactory", 101 to 200 "moderate", 201 to 300 "poor", 301 to 400 "very poor", and 401 to 500 "severe".The IMD has announced a yellow alert with a forecast of generally cloudy skies with light rain or thunderstorms at a few places. The minimum temperature is expected to settle at 25 degrees and the maximum at 36 degrees on Monday.However, temperatures are expected to gradually rise from tomorrow as the current spell of rain activity weakens and moves away from the region."For the first week of June, no heatwave conditions are likely over Delhi," Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather said.He said temperatures may rise gradually over the coming days but are expected to remain well below heatwave thresholds during the first week of June.
Rain, thunderstorms keep mercury well below normal in Delhi

The Air Quality Index remained satisfactory. Light rain or thunderstorms are forecast for Monday. Temperatures are expected to rise gradually afterwards.
