The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Eastern Cape has confirmed the arrest of two suspects following an investigation into the alleged rape of a critically ill 7-year-old girl in Humansdorp.

According to a statement issued by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, the child was initially admitted on 14 January 2026 to the Paediatric Oncology Ward of a provincial hospital in Gqeberha, where she was being treated for a severe medical condition.

“The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Eastern Cape has confirmed the arrest of two suspects following a harrowing investigation by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Humansdorp,” the statement said.

During treatment, medical personnel reportedly made a disturbing discovery.
