MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) on Sunday reminded the public that projecting laser beams and other high-intensity lights toward aircraft is strictly prohibited and punishable by law.

According to Caap, laser illumination either impairs aircraft pilots’ vision or causes distraction in critical phases of flight.

The agency cited multiple laws, including Philippine Civil Aviation Regulations Part 8.5.1.29, which states that “no person shall intentionally project a laser beam or direct a high-intensity light at an aircraft which can result in distraction, disruption, disorientation and, in extreme cases, incapacitation, adversely affect the ability of the flight crew to carry out their responsibilities, especially during take-off and landing.”
