The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Bicol (BFAR-5) officially turned over the refurbished Abuyog Dam to the local government unit of Sorsogon City. As one of BFAR’s Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa program sites, which focuses on sustaining inland fisheries, the P314,000 rehabilitation of the dam was designed to support controlled freshwater aquaculture activities in the community and boost fish production and protection of aquatic resources. The City Tourism Office also highlighted the potential of the Abuyog Dam to attract tourists interested in experiencing Sorsogon City’s thriving aquaculture practices.

The National Historical Institute installed a historical marker titled “Unang Kasunduan ng Kapayapaan sa Pilipinas” at Fort San Pedro, Cebu City. The marker commemorates the first peace treaty in the Philippines, signed on June 4, 1565, at this site, between Rajah Tupas of Cebu and Captain-General Miguel Lopez de Legazpi of Spain. The treaty signified the Cebuano’s recognition of Spain’s authority, assurance of protection by the Spaniards against their enemies and trade in the “gantihang bayan.”
