Residents of Chitra Nagar staging a sit-in on Gandhi Mandapam Road on Saturday.
:Residents of Chitra Nagar in Kotturpuram staged a road blockade on Saturday, alleging irregularities in the allotment of apartments constructed under a scheme of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB).According to the residents, more than 1,500 tenements had been built under the scheme promising rehabilitation for families living in Chitra Nagar. Though the flats were allotted last week, around 195 families, who have been residing in the locality for over 50 years, were allegedly denied allotment. The residents alleged that the flats had been allotted to people from Saidapet, with the support of DMK functionaries. They further claimed that despite submitting repeated petitions to the TNUHDB, no action had been taken to address their grievances.Condemning the alleged irregularities, the residents staged a sit-in on Gandhi Mandapam Road. The protest, which continued for over an hour, affected traffic movement on the stretch from Adyar to Nandanam.Police personnel attempted to hold talks with the protesters and persuade them to disperse. However, they detained the protesters after the negotiations failed. Published - May 31, 2026 12:34 am IST
