Persistent traffic congestion near the District Court Complex in Tiruchi has become a major concern for road users, with motorists experiencing long delays, particularly during peak hours. The stretch serves as a major junction for commuters heading to various parts of the city. The four-road junction witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day, with vehicles criss-crossing from multiple directions.Vehicles travelling from Reynolds Road and Bharathidasan Salai towards the MGR Roundabout, those coming in the opposite direction, and motorists moving between Heber Road and Reynolds Road converge at the junction, often resulting in chaotic traffic conditions. The crisis is aggravated by a non-functional traffic signal near the intersection.Adding to the inconvenience, a portion of the road near the Parangiri Veluppillai Park has remained barricaded since February to facilitate the reconstruction of a storm-water drain. The narrowed carriageway has significantly reduced vehicle movement, creating a bottleneck at one of the city’s busiest junctions.Commuters said the traffic situation had worsened in recent weeks, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours. Long queues of vehicles are a common sight on the approach roads leading to the roundabout, resulting in delays for students and other road users.“The congestion begins early in the morning and continues throughout the day. Vehicles move at a snail’s pace, especially during peakhours,” said V. Thiyagarajan, a commuter.Road users said lack of lane discipline and the rush to overtake often lead to vehicles brushing against one another, particularly two-wheelers attempting to navigate through the congestion. Commuters said the area witnesses frequent minor accidents.Road safety activists have urged the authorities to improve traffic management measures, including deploying additional traffic personnel, repairing the traffic signal, and installing diversion signboards to ease congestion.
