A 51-year-old procurement manager was shot dead while driving along Rivulet Road, Couva, on Thursday afternoon.Police identified the deceased as Ricardo Diaz, of Pinto Road, Arima.According to police reports, around 4.45 pm, a motorist travelling west along Rivulet Road noticed a black BYD Sealion 7 SUV stopped in the eastbound lane near National Energy and obstructing traffic.The motorist approached the vehicle intending to assist the driver but discovered Diaz slumped over in the driver’s seat. Several spent shells were also seen on the roadway.The Couva Police Station was contacted.When police arrived around 5.30 pm, they found Diaz inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds.Officers checked the victim for signs of life but found none before securing the scene and notifying homicide investigators.Crime scene investigators recovered several spent shell casings and a projectile.Investigators said Diaz had been employed as a procurement manager at a Proman warehouse for the past five years and was promoted to head of the department approximately six months ago.Police were told he was last seen leaving the company’s compound around 4.30 pm, shortly before he was discovered.The motive for the killing remains unknown.
