Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, on Friday (May 29, 2026) said the “cancellation” of the launch of the Singappen Special Task Force had become a talking point among the public, with many wondering whether the initiative itself had been shelved.“You cancelled the launch [slated for May 29, 2026] at the last minute. People are now asking whether only the launch has been postponed or the entire initiative itself. Does ‘change’ merely mean changing the name of the Singappen Special Force or its uniform? Do you need more time to maintain law and order? Tamil Nadu cannot wait indefinitely for you to learn the basics of governance and policing,” Mr. Udhayanidhi said in a social media post.He said the murder of a 25-year-old woman in Cuddalore was shocking and the recurring incidents of crime had raised serious questions about the law-and-order situation in the State.“Not a single day passes without reports of murder, burglary or sexual assault ever since the ‘sofa model’ government came to power. During the election campaign, he [TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay] spoke extensively about law and order, but after becoming Chief Minister, he seems to have gone into deep sleep mode,” he charged.
