Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) aims at generating 160 GW of green energy and, to achieve it, power infrastructure must be developed to meet the future requirements. The Green Energy Corridor (GEC) would be particularly useful to the upcoming data centres, he observed.Addressing a review meeting on the power sector at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Friday, Mr. Naidu called for greater emphasis on using solar energy in government offices and schools, saying it would substantially reduce the electricity burden on the State. He directed the officials to complete the installation of solar panels in the remaining SC and ST households by the end of August, having already covered 1,35,821 homes.EV charging stationsBesides, steps should be taken to install solar panels in 10 lakh homes with ₹20,000 subsidy each, he said, and instructed the officials to accelerate the establishment of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across the State.Officials informed that the process of setting up 577 EV charging stations at 131 locations already commenced, and that as part of the GEC Phase-III, proposals worth nearly ₹22,000 crore were prepared for integrating 18 GW of green energy (11 GW solar and 7 GW pumped storage) into the grid. Five pooling stationsTo support it, the government planned to lay 2,261 circuit km of new transmission lines and establish five major pooling stations at Mudigubba, Talupula, Ramayapatnam, Porumamilla and Koppaka with a combined capacity of 9,500 MW. The solarisation process of government buildings with 200 MW capacity has already begun. The EPDCL tied up with Pravah, an organisation associated with the Stanford University, along with an Artificial Intelligence Lab, for reducing technical power losses as a pilot project. A.P. was also developing the country’s first Digital Twin Grid for power supply management, they said. A World Economic Forum delegation had met the Chief Minister earlier and discussed the implementation of a roadmap for the establishment of the country’s first Thematic Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in A.P. Work in this regard was under way, they added. Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad and senior officials from AP Transco, AP Genco and DISCOMs were present.
