Purpose-built for physicians
CHICAGO — By launching virtual visits with remote neurologists, Geisinger Health increased new visits by 80% and reduced its patient backlog by 72%, according to a poster presented at the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting.
“We’re in a rural area in Pennsylvania. We’re finding trouble recruiting and retaining neurologists,” Neil R. Holland, MD, chair of neurology at the Geisinger Neuroscience Institute, told Healio.
According to Holland and colleagues, neurology graduates are not keeping pace with retirements among practicing neurologists, and growing demands for care among the aging population make staffing difficult as well.
“Also, we’re finding that a lot of neurology is becoming so complicated, a lot of neurologists are becoming specialists,” Holland said.
