Two internationally acclaimed Greek academics in the fields of computer science and economics have been named recipients of this year’s Bodossaki Excellence Award, the Bodossaki Foundation has announced.

The foundation said the award will go to Christos Papadimitriou, Donovan Family Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University, and Pinelopi Koujianou Goldberg, William Nordhaus Professor of Economics and Global Affairs at Yale University.

In a statement, the foundation praised the recipients’ “pioneering and internationally recognized life’s work,” saying it had contributed “decisively to the advancement of science.”

Papadimitriou is being recognized for his contributions to theoretical computer science and for helping popularize computational theory through academic textbooks and novels “in which mathematics and computer science serve as the structural backbone of the narrative,” the statement said.

Koujianou Goldberg is being honored for research examining the effects of trade policy on productivity, consumer welfare, poverty, inequality and economic growth, particularly in developing countries.
