Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the drone incident in the Romanian city of Galați, where a Russian armed drone Geran-2 struck a residential building and injured two civilians during overnight attacks connected to the war in Ukraine.

In a statement posted on social media, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry described the incident as unacceptable and dangerous for regional stability. “Such irresponsible actions that threaten European security are unacceptable. Bulgaria expresses its full solidarity with Romania,” the ministry said.

The drone entered Romanian airspace before crashing into a 10-story apartment building in Galați, where nearly 70 residents were inside at the time of the strike. Romanian authorities reported that two people suffered injuries and a major fire broke out following the impact.

The incident triggered a wave of reactions across Europe and NATO. Romanian President Nicușor Dan convened the Supreme National Defense Council, describing the strike as the most serious incident affecting Romanian territory since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu confirmed that the Russian ambassador in Bucharest had been summoned and said Romania would present diplomatic measures in response. She called the event unprecedented in seriousness and said further announcements would follow from the presidency.
