Audi has launched sales of the second model of its sub-brand in China. The AUDI E7X is available in five variants with starting prices ranging from the equivalent of €34,200 to €45,600. The new model is a full-sized crossover SUV measuring five meters in length and offering up to 500 kW of power.Image: SAIC AudiAUDI officially unveiled the E7X at the Shenzhen Auto Show on 29 May. The model follows the E5 Sportback, the first vehicle from the AUDI brand, which notably does not carry the traditional four-ring logo. The brand has already scheduled its third model, a fully electric saloon, for launch in 2027.The key specifications of the E7X were already known from the type approval filing published in China ahead of the market launch. As a result, the dimensions come as little surprise. The crossover SUV measures 5.05 metres in length, 2 metres in width and 1.71 metres in height, while the wheelbase extends to 3.06 metres. The E7X is built on a 900-volt platform as standard across all variants and is available in two powertrain configurations: a 300 kW rear-wheel-drive version or a 500 kW all-wheel-drive version, which adds a 200 kW motor to the front axle. Both motors are supplied by Huayu Automotive, a subsidiary of SAIC. The top speed is capped at 230 km/h. The vehicle’s batteries, provided by CATL, come in 100 or 109 kWh capacities. The longest-range version is claimed to achieve 751 kilometres under the Chinese test cycle.Chinese media reports also mention a fast-charging mode that enables the new Audi to recover around 429 kilometres of range in just ten minutes. This is significantly higher than the 320 kilometres of range per ten minutes stated in the earlier type approval filing. Audi itself states that the state of charge ‘can be increased from 10 to 80 per cent in just 13 minutes thanks to 4C fast charging,’ although the company does not specify the corresponding DC charging capacity. An intriguing question is whether Audi plans to introduce the vehicle in Europe at a later stage. According to earlier insider information from CarNewsChina, Audi is considering exactly that. In fact, Audi applied for EU-wide trademark protection for the designation E7X with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on 2 December. However, this does not necessarily mean the vehicle will be launched in the EU. Rather, the move simply protects the term E7X from being used by other manufacturers for vehicles, vehicle parts and accessories, or apparatus for transport by land, air, or water.“With the E5 Sportback, which has been honored as China Car of the Year 2026, we opened a new chapter for Audi in China’s electric age. The AUDI E7X now extends that pioneering vision to the important SUV segment,” said Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. “With a clear product development roadmap that is seamlessly integrated with the Chinese innovation ecosystem, we look confidently to the future with more tailor-made models to come in the next few years.”“The AUDI E7X is the first SUV built on the Advanced Digitized Platform—a vehicle that balances Audi heritage with future. Totally new yet unmistakably AUDI. Progressive design, superior driving dynamics, and the latest innovations blended in a family-focused SUV,” added Fermín Soneira, CEO of the Audi and SAIC Cooperation Project.cnevpost.com, carnewschina.com, audi-mediacenter.com
