In the case of the killing of Reeyaz Habib in his Liberty Village townhouse, there’s no surveillance footage of the fatal incident, no eyewitnesses, and no cause of death.

It’s against this backdrop that lawyers for the Crown and defence made their final pitches to the jury Thursday at the trial of husband and wife Khoa Tran and Isabelle Nguyen. Tran, 36, stands charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing his upstairs neighbour due to his complaints about the smell from Tran’s balcony barbecue, while Nguyen, 30, faces charges of accessory after the fact and indignity to a body for allegedly helping Tran dispose of Habib’s body, wrapped in towels and blankets, in the complex’s garbage compactor.
