Last night, following reports of explosion sounds heard in Bandar Abbas and several nearby cities, media outlets close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported a maritime clash in the Strait of Hormuz and a missile operation conducted by the Iranian armed forces.
On Thursday evening, the Fars News Agency reported that Iranian armed forces had executed a “missile launch operation” from the country’s southern regions toward specified targets, but provided no explanation regarding the destination or nature of these targets.
Prior to that, social media users and some local sources reported hearing several explosions in parts of Hormozgan and Bushehr provinces. Masoud Tangestani, the governor of Jam, a city near Bushehr, confirmed the news in an interview with IRIB (state TV), stating: “The event that took place tonight was related to the destruction of a hostile aircraft by the armed forces. Currently, the county is in a normal situation.”
The Tasnim News Agency also quoted the Army Air Defense Command Control Center as saying that the sounds were heard from the direction of the sea and were related to an exchange of fire during a warning issued to “violating” vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
