As multiple explosions were heard east of Bandar Abbas, Iran and the United States announced military actions against each other in the Persian Gulf and around the Strait of Hormuz.

The Fars News Agency reported early Thursday morning that at around 1:30 AM, at least three explosions were heard east of Bandar Abbas, and investigations to determine their source are ongoing. Local reports published on social media also indicated that several explosions occurred near the airport and in the eastern part of the city.

Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces had shot down four Iranian kamikaze drones that “posed a threat around the Strait of Hormuz.” CENTCOM also said it targeted a ground drone control station in Bandar Abbas that was on the verge of launching a fifth drone.

According to the CENTCOM statement, the strikes were “measured, purely defensive, and aimed at maintaining the ceasefire.”

Hours later, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed in a statement that the United States had targeted locations on the outskirts of Bandar Abbas airport, announcing that it had hit the “originating base” of those attacks at 4:50 AM.
